French Settlement junior high basketball teams take Division II championships

The French Settlement junior high Lions and Lady Lions basketball teams are heading into the Livingston Parish basketball tournament as division champions.

The Lions ended their regular season 10-0 in district play to win the Livingston Parish Division II championship. The Lady Lions were 9-1 in district and were also named Division II champions.

Division II is comprised of French Settlement, Frost, Doyle, Maurepas, Holden and Springfield.

The Lady Lions defeated Doyle to win the Division II tournament at Maurepas.

"We had to fight until the very end," Lady Lions coach Jennifer Breaux said. "After trailing by eight points through most of the fourth quarter, our girls kicked it into gear in the last two minutes of the game. They never stopped working together, and it paid off."

The Lions defeated Springfield at the Division II tournament to take home the championship trophy. They are undefeated in district play.

The Livingston Parish Junior High basketball tournament, which features every middle school in the parish, is set for December 12-16 at Albany/Springfield Middle Schools.
